Some 50 members and guests of Corowa Rotary Club gathered for a relaxed evening of wine, food and fellowship at Valhalla winery recently.

Club, District and international Rotary activities were showcased through displays and the continual screening of DVD's.

These featured the District Ride to Conference for Polio Plus, Corowa Club's Working Party visit to Vanuatu and a documentary on our District Youth Exchange Programme.

Melbourne based representatives from Aquabox and Shelter Box were in attendance to provide an explanation of their kits, which were on display.

Aquabox provides life-saving water tanks and delivers them to areas affected by natural and man-made disasters.

A robust tank with water purification tablets capable of providing 1100 litres of purified water will supply a family of 4 for 4 months.

Corowa Rotary Club also supports Shelter Box, which was on display as well. Similarly Shelter Box delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide.

Lifesaving supplies have recently been delivered to flood victims in Columbia and hurricane victims in St Lucia and work continues in Haiti and Pakistan.

The catering firm ANT provided an interesting range of finger food for the participants.

Valhalla provided wines and soft drinks and the delightful ambience of their cement rendered straw bale winery.

A good evening was had by all.

The concept of our Membership night at a local winery was to showcase Rotary International in an informal setting - wine and finger food with 4 DVD's running simultaneously and AquaBox and Shelter Box representatives being available to explain their kits. This enabled plenty of conversation and moving around.

The only formality was towards the end of the evening - short, as we had restricted our time from 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm - when the Rotary Club of Lane Cove DVD 'What in the World is Rotary? was screened. AG Terry Simmonds and our President David Potts then issued a general invitation for invited guests to consider joining up with Rotary next year.

The participants - 20 of a group of 35 originally invited - were 'hand-picked' by members as likely candidates for membership

Follow up to the gathering is now being addressed by the Club Membership Committee
