Rotary Youth Leadership Award - RYLA

District 9790 Rotary Youth Leadership Award

In District 9790, the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) is an intensive program that brings young adults together from ages 18-30 to further develop character and leadership skills and learn about Rotary.

District 9790 RYLA is an experience-based conference consisting of 7 days and 6 nights. The RYLA Conference is organised by previous RYLArians, Rotaractors and Rotarians from across the District.

Participants are nominated by local Rotary clubs or self-nominate after hearing about the conference through friends. The conference offers the opportunity to build self-confidence, gain exposure to a variety of issues and people, meet active community leaders, and learn valuable information and career skills.

RYLA gives young leaders and emerging leaders the opportunity to serving their own communities and beyond. In turn, RYLA can bring new energy to a Rotary district and club, inspire ideas for service, increase support of community service projects, and develop future Rotarians.

Each RYLA shares the following program objectives to:

  • demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth
  • encourage and assist young people in responsible and effective voluntary youth leadership by providing them with a valuable training experience
  • foster continued and stronger leadership of youth by youth
  • publicly recognise the many young people who are rendering service to their communities as youth leaders

Your RYLArian’s commitment to the club: The RYLArian your club sponsors is responsible for three activities.

Before RYLA
The participant comes to the club, if possible, before RYLA and introduces him or herself and explains what they expect to gain from attending RYLA. This is a short agenda item at a club meeting, for example, 5 minutes.

After RYLA
They come to the club to present the benefits gained from attending RYLA and assist the club to recruit a participant for the next RYLA. For this presentation the RYLArian is the guest speaker for the night. Please set an agreed date as soon as possible.

After RYLA
The RYLArian works alongside Rotarians on two projects. The club needs to keep in touch with the RYLArian.

To market RYLA to young people book a speaker: Have a previous RYLArian speak to club members, family and the young people that are interested in attending.

Contact the RYLA Chair and/or Secretary to arrange a speaker.
