FIVE COLD BEERS AND A TON OF FRUIT CAKE You will be taken on a journey through time and watch an idea conceived over five cold beers develop into a multimillion-dollar enterprise. That idea, The Smith Family, brings joy and hope to thousands of today’s and tomorrow’s families. Like presents at Christmas, being involved with The Smith Family brings joy to both the giver and receiver. Know that feeling? Listen as Ray gives you a few ideas on how to experience that inner joy, and change the destiny of others through involvement with his favourite Smith Family program Learning for Life. Ray Brown’s talks are always a delight, blending as he does his experience in corporate sales at Optus with his interest and support of The Smith Family. You will be inspired and motivated with new ideas and how to implement them. Ray is an e-business visionary and an evangelist for The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program. Each presentation is customised for his audience, Ray’s aim is to challenge your destiny. |

FROM SUCCESS TO SIGNIFICANCE Today, more and more people are choosing to leave the Corporate world and “downshift” their lives to achieve better balance between work, relationships (social and community) and family. Why are they doing this? What are they hoping to achieve, both for their community and for themselves? Hear from one such person who has recently made this decision and is now living what he describes as “ a life of greater significance”, helping such organisations as The Smith Family as a volunteer. Tony Stokes is an experienced professional with an extensive managerial background in product development, marketing and business planning at The Ford Motor Company. In 2003, he took early retirement and completely changed direction in his pursuits to now focusing on working in the community. In his interesting and inspiring presentation, he will describe his motivations for joining The Smith Family’s team of volunteers, and recount some of his experiences working with this organisation that so closely aligns with his desire for assisting disadvantaged Australians. |

EDUCATION AND PARTICIPATION Many of us take for granted our education and subsequent participation in modern society. This anecdotal presentation will expose the results that stumbling blocks have on families, and how The Smith Family through its many programs assist those who are experiencing difficulties in their day to day lives. Lorraine Meehan through her nursing career is well aware of the way illness and hardship can disrupt family life and children’s education. Her confidence in the progressive programs of The Smith Family is obvious through this passionate presentation. |

ENHANCING THE FUTURE OF OUR YOUNG PEOPLE Young people are the future of our society. Many students leave school well before they have developed their skills and abilities. They may have dreams, but these are not fulfilled for many reasons. How can the community address this important issue, where opportunities are not available for all of our young people? Can we afford to waste this potential? Many of these questions will be addressed during the presentation. Beryl Jones comes from a career in education, and has been a volunteer for 9 years with The Smith Family. As a member of the Steering Committee and Community Relations Team, she has practical experience in the programs & direction of support that The Smith Family is implementing in many communities across Australia . Youth programs give her the greatest fulfillment, and her experiences and enthusiasm will be shared during her thought provoking presentation. |
