ROTARY INSURANCE

The role of insurance cover is to provide the final level of protection in the event that a potential hazard situation does occur despite all the appropriate precautions and risk reduction procedures having been implemented. Insurance protects the club, district, organisation or individual Rotarian against potentially devastating liability claims.

Rotarians should not assume that each and every activity which they conduct is automatically covered by the Rotary insurance scheme. No insurer will provide blanket cover. It is imperative that Rotarians, Rotary Clubs and Districts and other Rotary organisations ensure, before they conduct an activity, that it falls within the ambit of cover provided by the Rotary policy. In addition Rotary cannot provide indemnity under the Rotary policy to third parties without the prior agreement of the insurer.

If the activity / project is likely to impact on non Rotarians or the general public then it should be advised to the District Insurance Officer so that confirmation of cover under Rotary Insurance can be obtained.

Each Club Director should complete a "Risk Management" form for each activity / project during their year. If the project is likely to impact on non Rotarians and/or the general public then the "Rotary Insurance Proforma" should be completed and emailed, faxed or posted to the District Insurance Officer in order to obtain confirmation of cover for the project under Rotary Insurance (email is the preferred option as it is easier to forward to Rotary's Broker in Brisbane).

All claims or potential claims should be reported immediately to the District Insurance Officer who will then liaise with Rotary's Broker and advise of any further requirements.

DON'T ASSUME THAT ALL PROJECTS WILL BE COVERED

OBTAIN CONFIRMATION OF COVER, UNDER ROTARY INSURANCE, FOR ALL PROJECTS VIA THE DISTRICT INSURANCE OFFICER
