the Western suburbs of Melbourne. He attended

John’s working life started in 1967 as a Production Trainee at the sports
goods manufacturer AG Spalding. There he met his first wife Lyn and they
married in 1970. In 1971 John became an estimator at the gasket
manufacturer Richard Klinger and the same year they bought their first house
in Deer Park where they had five hildren – three girls and two boys. During his seven years at Richard Klinger, John moved from estimating to became the company’s Sales Representative to the automotive industry. In 1978 John was offered the Sales Manager’s position at AA Gaskets. In 1980 the family moved to a bigger house in Keilor Downs to accommodate their growing family. During the 22 years at AA Gaskets John advanced from Sales Manager to Marketing Manager and in 1989 became the companies CEO and part owner. In 1990 he was invited to join the Rotary Club of Coburg by Keith Young, the previous owner of the company. In 1990 the family shifted to Eltham and during those years John traveled extensively overseas on business. In 2000 John left AA Gaskets and become part owner and CEO of Sealing Components Australia. Due to this change of job, John left the Rotary Club of Coburg and joined the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek. John has spent the last five years working as a consultant for various companies in Australia, Taiwan and Japan. John met Eileen when she answered a local newspaper ad for anyone interested in Rotary. As the Club President at the time John inducted Eileen as a member in December 2005. John and Lyn had separated in 2006 and John had moved to an apartment in Bulleen. John and Eileen started to see each other in late 2006 and they married in 2008. Beside Rotary, John’s other passion is Numismatics, the study of coins. John is a leading authority on the Coins of Malta. He has an extensive collection of these coins ranging from ancient Melita coins dating from 211BC to 35AD and also coins minted by the Knights of Malta 1530 – 1798. John is currently working on a book about these coins and will be visiting museums in Europe during 2010 including the British Museum London and the Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge to photograph and catalogue each museum’s collection. |
