The Rotary Club of Yea is holding their inaugural Yea & District Open Gardens Weekend on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th November 2011.

Twelve exceptional local gardens will be open from 9:30am to 4:30pm each day. Entry is $3 for each individual garden or a $25 ticket will give access to all twelve gardens. Tickets are accompanied by a brochure outlining the highlights of each garden and a map pinpointing their locations.

Gardens range from town gardens to large country gardens and from newly established gardens to mature gardens with beautiful large trees giving shade, shelter and structure. Several of the gardens have large water features and all the country gardens are in magical settings with stunning views of bubbling creeks or vast vistas which provide an added bonus to the garden visit.

Many of the gardens have specialty collections, including the Iris collection at 'The Three Sisters', the hundreds of roses, including bush, standards and rambling, at 'Ferndale' and Strath Glen Station, the unique seed collector's garden with many heritage plants in Yea township and an extraordinary vegetable garden at Limestone.

"Rising Brook" in upper Flowerdale is of special interest. This beautiful garden was completely decimated in the 2009 fires and the owners were heartbroken at the devastation but with the sympathy and support from friends and complete strangers and lots of hard work, the garden is once again a sight to see. Photos of the destruction will be on display for visitors to compare then and now!

Several of the gardens will be serving morning and afternoon teas and 'Junction Hill' will be serving light lunches straight from the outdoor pizza oven.

Tickets and information available from:
