For the past 60 years, the Red Cross has held a national fundraising campaign, Red Cross Calling. This campaign engages members, volunteers, schools and community groups across Australia who donate their time to raise funds towards continuing our vital humanitarian work. Community Groups play a vital role in Red Cross Calling and I am writing to ask for your support and participation in this years campaign which runs through March.
Red Cross supports thousands of people each year by responding to communities affected by natural disaster; helping isolated elderly people stay connected through to providing breakfast to hundreds of children each year. We also have many other services that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, homeless people, refugees and asylum seekers, people living with mental illness, offenders and their families. Last year the Red Cross Calling campaign raised $1.5 million in support of these programs, which is a fantastic result.
There are many ways to get involved in Red Cross Calling and fundraise for us, and below are some activities that other Community Groups currently undertake as part of this campaign:
- Door Knocking
- Shopping Centre Collections
- BBQ’s
- Second hand clothing stall
- Cake Stall/Morning Tea
- Trivia Night
- Garden Stall
