Australian Rotary Health are encouraging businesses to join in a fun fundraising day on Friday 20th May 2011 to raise funds for mental health research. Did you know… every year more than 4 million Australians are diagnosed with a mood disorder and almost half of the Australian Population will experience a mental health problem at some point in their life. Since 2000 Australian Rotary Health has been raising funds to support a number of Australian based research projects into Mental Health. As one of the largest independent health research funds in Australia, the research we support has been used in a number of different settings – from changing best practice methods at hospitals and clinics, to providing information to various government and independent health bodies about the effectiveness of a range of problems and services. Get on board! Choose a date that suits your business in May and set it around a hat theme. Encourage staff to come to work in a hat, set the theme of your choice (race day, novelty hat, workplace hat, paper, sporting, cap, beanie, chefs… the choice is endless) and make a donation towards Australian Rotary Health. At Banksia, we're putting the challenge out to other businesses to get on board. On Tuesday 24th May not only are staff asked to don their best hat for the occasion but we're also holding the 'Battle of the Sausage Roll' where employee's homemade creations will be judged by an eminent panel featuring local celebrities: Mike Sweeney, Steve Kerwin and Fiona Cordingly (tbc). Employees also pay to make a nomination for the people's choice award. Maybe the Banksia winners sausage rolls could go up against your best to take out the town title? It's all a bit of fun, it's easy to get involved and a great cause. Mental Health is often overlooked but is something many of us may have experienced (either personally or with a friend or family member) at one time in our lives. Every dollar counts and donations over $2 are tax deductible. Donations can be made online or via your local Rotarian. Receipts will be issued upon request.
