In the presence of District Governor Alan Anderson and wife Dorothy, members and guests of The Rotary Club of Euroa gathered on Friday April 8th to express appreciation for the substantial contribution Mick Peel makes to his local community. The Rotary Club of Euroa resolved that the following criteria are critical to the eligibility, nomination and selection of a person from outside the Rotary International network for a Paul Harris Fellow recognition.

a person should have or continue to provide outstanding voluntary contribution and service to the community
Such service should not be an opportunity for reward
The contribution should have occurred over a significant period of time and
the nominee should be a well regarded and respected community person and one whose service has "made a difference"

Three Rotarians also received a Paul Harris Fellowship on the night: PP Michael Bell, PP Michael Tehan a 3rd sapphire and PP Fred Tubba 1st sapphire.

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Euroa Foundation Committee, Michael Tehan presented the following citations:

Mick Peel:

He works for Strathbogie Shire Council and previously for the Shire of Euroa and is one of Council's most senior and respected employees. He is always ready to do anyone a good turn. His acts of kindness especially to older people is legendary, and something we greatly admire.

He is regularly called on by residents and community organisations to assist or to attend an emergencyparticularly with heavy equipment, trucks and other machinery. He is always "on call and ready to help". His community service is reflected through many years of involvement in:

One thing that can be said about Mick Peel is that he is passionate. Passion is the difference between ordinary and extraordinary. He has a "yes we can" attitude and recognises the importance of looking after our community and people because it means so much to so many people. He is honest, forthright and loyal, generous to a fault, fiercely independent and believes everyone should be given a fair go. He is "a man for others"someone who has shown in his life characteristics of competence, compassion and commitment.

He is an unassuming and wise man and can always be relied upon for sensible and sensitive advice. He is respected by his colleagues and has a concern for justice, fairness and the welfare of people in our community. He is a gentleman, modest, humble and unpretentious. There is no doubt that our community has been a better place for his presence and service.

Congratulations and thank you Mick, you well deserve this recognition of a Paul Harris Fellow.

To speak about P.P. Fred Tubb and especially in this company is a privilege and also a daunting task. Each of us will have particular recollections of Fred and his influence amongst us and of Fred's wisdom and the generosity with which it is shared.

They became engaged and were married in 1948. On 6th August 1966 Fred was inducted as a member into the Rotary Club of Euroa.
