| ROTAHOMES (ongoing) project at Koroipita, Lautoka, FIJI. | ||
It would be great if we can have a carpenter, maybe a local apprentice carpenter and/or a farmer. Duration two weeks, 26th May to 9th June 2012. All tools and required materials are provided on site. Weekend off with extended fellowship. Estimated cost $900, all tax deductible, through Rotary Australia Overseas Aid Fund. (Main cost is air fare). The team endeavours to raise some monies to reduce the overall costs, but also to personally pay for other incidentals, such as food. Accommodation can be either at the newly constructed Great Hall (free) or at the Northern Club at $26 per room per night for 2, to be confirmed. Are you interested? Like more details? CONTACT CON PROUSSALIS 03 9437 1419 or 0414 943 707 The Rotahomes village (also known as Koroipita) is an on-going Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) supported project to build low cost cyclone resistant housing, with the aim to provide permanent accommodation for disadvantaged, displaced and homeless families which are currently living in squalid conditions. The first town constructed as part of Phase one (K1) involved 85 homes. Phase two (K2) which is funded by New Zealand Aid Program and Fiji Government, will involve the construction of a further 164 homes over a 5 years timeline. The basic homes are timber framed and steel cladding, each with 1 or 2 rooms, a kitchen, shower and a separate small toilet block. The success of this RAWCS project has been mainly due to the constant flow of Rotary volunteers who have significantly reduced the cost of building these houses estimated at around $A5million by the time the project is completed. |
