It is with deepest regret that the Rotary Club of Deniliquin acknowledges the passing of our long serving member, Rotarian Noel Miller, and extends our sympathy to his wife Nancye, children Paul, Andrea, Craig and their families. Noel passed away at St Vincents Hospital in Melbourne whilst undergoing heart surgery.
Noel joined Rotary in June 1965 and was elected President for 1975/76
1973 District Chairman of FAIM (Fourth Avenue in Motion)
1981 Lead Group Study Exchange Team to Pennsylvania, USA
1989 District Governor's Representative
Rotary's highest honour was bestowed on Noel in 1989 when he was made a Paul Harris Fellow
Noel has been a Board Member of the Rotary Club of Deniliquin more times than not in his 45 years membership, and has served in every capacity a multiplicity of times. Noel was our current Treasurer and longest serving member.
A few of Noel's many milestones with Rotary are:-
 |
1968 Island Sanctuary Bridge - prefabricated in 3 sections in Noel's workshop in North Deniliquin. Project commenced in 1968 with Rotary to build the bridge, Lions Club to do the pylons and Apex Club to do the bridge decking. Noel's ingenuity came to the fore when he successfully rigged a flying fox system to locate each section over the creek to the island. A tremendously successful project by the combined Service clubs under Noel's leadership |
 |
1970 Papua New Guinea Fourth Avenue in Motion project - Noel and Ron Barnett volunteered to go to Tari, PNG in the middle of the jungle, to help the Asia Pacific Christian Mission build a teacher training school -the trip just to get there was a trial in itself. Noel and Ron spent 4 weeks working with the missionaries and local population, and were amazed at what they were able to achieve. |
 |
1973 Four Post Youth Camp Noel's involvement at 4 Post began when Rotary constructed an ablution block in 1973, many years later in 1996 Noel lead a team under the New Work Opportunities program to re-build the Picnic Race Club Hall which had been dismantled by Rotary. Rotary and Noel spent many hours re-establishing this facility - from there Noel joined the 4 Post Management Committee, serving as Chairman till his death. |
Noel has shown outstanding service to Rotary and the community of Deniliquin, being actively involved and leading many local projects. Noel was a wonderful colleague, friend and mentor, husband, father and grandfather, who was held in the highest esteem by every member of our Club over many years. Noel exemplified the Rotary motto - service above self.
