| Twenty Two ShelterBoxes | ||
The Club is delighted to announce that 22 Shelter Boxes have been donated at a total of $26,400. When the Appeal was initiated, the Club made contact with our District Coordinator, Bob Eycken, who immediately arranged for a Shelter Box to be transported to Albury. A request was then made to the Centrepoint Shopping Centre in Albury for a display to be set up in the central foyer area. The main purpose of that display was to create an awareness with the public of the desperate need for emergency accommodation for disaster victims and many smaller donations were received from the public. Major business houses and other organisations were approached and excellent publicity was provided through “News Weekly”, a new newspaper now in circulation in the local area. Local radio stations also assisted in promoting the Appeal. In past years, the Rotary Club of Albury West has supported the Shelter Box program as it considers it to be a very worthy project.
