| Rotary Foundation Newsletter - July 2010 |
| Congratulations PDG Mani Seneviratne on your recognition by The Rotary Foundation with a "Certificate of Meritorious Service" presented at District changeover. Mani has worked very hard for the District and The Foundation over the last 3 years and this recognition is well deserved. The Rotary Foundation is one of the largest foundations in the world. It is Rotary's own charitable fund. Annual contributions to the Foundation are invested for three years and the income earned from these investments pays for all the Foundation's operations, fund administration and administrative expenses. Every annual giving dollar contributed to the Foundation is available for its programs approximately three years later. Between the years 1947 and 2005 approximately US$1.5 billion has been spent on the Foundation's programs. Members of District 9790 donated approximately $200,000 to the Foundation in the 2009-2010 Rotary year. Please congratulate yourselves, but now work on how we can best spend this money to help the needy people of our nation and in our world. The Trustees of the fund developed what they call the SHARE system to give all districts a voice in how contributions are spent and to allow districts to participate in the programs that are of the most interest to them. Under the SHARE system, all district's annual giving is totalled up at the end of the contribution year and is divided into two funds: 50% is credited to the District Designated Fund (DDF) and the remaining 50% is credited to the World Fund (WF). Each district may then use the DDF monies which they collected three years before, for any programs they wish to choose, such as humanitarian grants, additional GSE and other programs. The WF pays for the programs which are free to every district, such as one group Study Exchange program per year, Matching Grants (Matching dollar for dollar for approved projects combining two countries), District Simplified Grants and so on. The mission of the Foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programs. Please put your fund, The Rotary Foundation, at the top of your charitable giving. Your District Foundation team to assist you this year is: Chair - The Rotary Foundation: PDG Clive Walker (Rae) (H) 03 5752 1361 Rotary Club of Myrtleford Deputy Chair - 3H, Information Officer & Future Visions 3 H Program PDG Peter Gilbert (Barbara) (H) 03 9438 3542 Rotary Club of Preston World Peace & Ambassadorial Scholarships PP Peter Gibson (Sam) (H) 03 9380 6942 Rotary Club of Broadmeadows Group Study Exchange (GSE) PP Peter Morley (Diane) (H) 03 5795 2443 Rotary Club of Euroa Alumni PP Don Hamilton (Ann) (H) 03 9857 4289 Rotary Club of Rosanna Matching Grants & District Simplified Grants PP Alf Armstrong (Margaret) (H) 02 6021 7884 Rotary Club of Albury North Disaster Relief Grants PP Phil Clancy (Helen) (H) 03 5782 1097 Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) PP Geoff Long (Helen) (H) 03 58213526 Rotary Club of Shepparton Polio Plus PDG David Cooke (Judy) (H) 02 6040 9323 Rotary Club of Albury West. Please do not hesitate to contact us to assist you or request us as guest speakers at your club meetings. We are now commencing another Rotary Year with enthusiastic Presidents and their boards. In your deliberations and planning, please include the Foundation as one of you major goals for your year. Your private or club contribution to Annual Giving, Permanent Fund, and/or the EREY Program supports both local and global projects identified by Rotarians around the world. When you make an annual contribution to The Rotary Foundation, you can be confident that 50 percent of that gift will come right back to your district in three years to be used for educational and humanitarian programs and for projects in your local community. The other portion of your contribution benefits the World Fund in support of our commitment to International Service. The three-year SHARE investment cycle ensures that 100 percent of your contribution is spent on Rotary programs and grants. There are thousands of charitable organizations working throughout the world that make a positive impact on those in need. But The Rotary Foundation is the only charitable organization funded by contributions from Rotarians, for programs and projects identified by Rotarians, and administered by Rotarians at the project site. The Rotary Foundation is YOU. PDG Clive J Walker July 2010. |
