| The benefits of establishing a Paul Harris Society (Extracts from an article by John Rasmussen RRFC, Zone 23) The Paul Harris Society (PHS) is a way to enhance and increase Annual Programs Fund support in your district. Annual giving is a key component by which Rotarians can fulfil their commitment to international service. Increased annual giving also means additional district funds become available to support local and district driven projects through District Designated Funds (DDF). Most large charities recognize different levels of annual giving. Until the official adoption of the Paul Harris Society, The Rotary Foundation only recognized Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member contributions as an annual recognition. The Paul Harris Society creates a new recognition level for those Rotarians who have the capacity and the desire to make a significant gift to The Rotary Foundation each year. |

WHAT’S YOUR “EVERY ROTARIAN EVERY YEAR” (EREY) STORY? |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| (Extracts from EREY publications) Manon Lennon is fond of recalling childhood summers when she and her family used to go camping. "One day, the campground owner decided to dig a well, says Lennon, a member of the Rotary Club of Laval, Québec, Canada. "Fascinated, I watched the process and realized how easy it was, with the proper equipment, to get drinkable water. At that moment, I wished that when I would be a grown-up, I would be able to afford to dig many wells in developing countries." Lennon held onto her dream but says she found it difficult to fulfil, until she heard of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation. She joined the Laval club in 2002. During a district Rotary Foundation seminar, Lennon learned that by contributing to the Foundation, Rotarians could provide safe water and other necessities where needed most. "That is why I started giving to The Rotary Foundation every year, Lennon says. "Thank you, Rotary, for making my dream come true!" |

| The Fight Against Polio Goes On | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| (Extracts from an article by Bruce Allen RI Parramatta) The figures being received continue to look good although vigilance is the key word. From a global point of view, the data provided at June 15th indicated that there have been 349 cases reported year to date against a figure of 552 for the same period last year. The interesting part of the data provided is that the success we are having in the four endemic countries is far more optimistic (58 versus 405 last year) while the cases in non-endemic countries has grown (291 versus 147 last year). A few comments by country are: Afghanistan. No new cases reported in the last week and only 10 cases YTD June 15th. India. No new cases reported in the last week and 21 cases YTD June 15th. Last case reported 29th April. Nigeria. No new cases reported in the last week and only three cases YTD June 15th. Pakistan. Two new cases reported in the past week and 24 cases YTD June 15th. This is an increase over the same period last year. Consideration is being given to bringing National Immunisation Day's (NIDs) forward. Clubs in our Rotary region are strong supporters of the Polio Challenge and are playing their part in Rotary achieving its goal of reaching $200 million. The Rotary Foundation is YOU.
