Rotary Bookmarks - Polio Plus

DG David Cooke has sent Polio Plus Marks to all Clubs, and by now you would have received them. DG David has spoken about this to his Presidents at his PETs and at District Assembly.

The DG wants you to sell the bookmarks to the members for $1 each. He would prefer if members and well-wishers sell them to the businesses in your area or to circulate the bookmarks with their accounts or as promotional material within Clubs. The bookmarks have the Polio Plus on one side and the Rotary phone number on the other side, suggesting they call the number if they want to find out more about Rotary or if they are interested in joining Rotary.

The Rotary Foundation Assistant (RFA) will talk to you about encouraging members to buy these bookmarks in bulk and obtain a receipt and claim it as a tax deduction for their business.

The Foundation Chairs will have to sell it hard to enable the Clubs to send the money to RI by the 30th May 2010.

The Clubs to collect the money and send a cheque in the name of "The Australia Rotary Foundation Trust" with the names and addresses of all those who purchased the bookmarks with the amount they contributed to the District Secretary.

District Secretary, in turn, will record it in the District Books and inform the TRF Chair and the Database officer and forward the cheque to RI Parramatta.

RI Parramatta will then send every contributor a Tax receipt.

I would urge you to promote this immediately to ensure DG David's passion for Polio Plus is achieved.

If you need further information or you have any queries please feel free to call District Foundation Chair PDG Mani Seneviratne or DG David Cooke.

Let's start promoting the "Bookmarks" for that worthy cause "POLIO PLUS." We need your help, and the promotion is in your hands.

Group Study Exchange.

Our GSE Teams that visited District 1190 - Manchester UK & District 6000 - Iowa USA are now on their way home. They have had a marvellous time; and have been great ambassadors for our District. Please ensure you invite them to your Club as a Guest Speaker to listen to their experiences.

Every Rotarian Every Year

Club goal setting is vital to the "Every Rotarian, Every Year" effort in building sustained support for The Rotary Foundation's Annual Programs Fund, the primary source of funding for the Foundation's programs.

Through each Rotarian's contribution, the Foundation has the combined resources to improve people's lives.

Your contribution to the Annual Programs Fund can literally be the bridge to a better life for people in need. In El Salvador, a US$17,600 Matching Grant project built three bridges that improved the lives of approximately 2,500 people. Sponsored by the Rotary clubs of San Salvador Cuscatlán, El Salvador, and Warwick, Virginia, USA, the bridges increased agricultural trade, economic growth, and access to health care and education. An unexpected benefit of the project: During excavation for one of the bridges, a high quality water source was discovered which residents can now access - by crossing the bridge.

Contributions by Every Rotarian, Every Year can make a difference in lives around the world. For example, a $100 contribution can provide mosquito nets for 50 children in Tanzania; $1,000, microcredit loans for 23 women in the Philippines; $10,000, two water wells to serve villages in Haiti; $100,000, 100 dairy cows and 50 flocks of chickens to farmers in Romania to produce milk and food for area orphanages.

How far will your contribution go? If you want your contributions to be recorded for this Rotary year, please ensure that you send your contributions to reach R.I Parramatta before the 30 may 2010.

PHF Contributions

At their April meeting, The Rotary Foundation Trustees made the following changes to Paul Harris Fellow recognition effective 1 July:

Foundation Recognition Points (FRPs) may only be transferred for transactions of 100 points or more.
Individual FRPs will expire upon the death of the donor or death of the surviving spouse of a major donor.
The individual donor will be the only person authorized to transfer FRPs. For a club account, the club president may authorize the transfer of points; for a district account, the district governor may authorize the transfer.
Paul Harris Fellow medallions are available from the RI Distribution Centre or International Office at a cost of US$15 + GST each (including shipping). Certificates and lapel pins are still provided gratis by the Foundation.
I am sure your Club is planning to recognise members with the presentation of a PHF Certificate. The lead time required by R.I Parramatta is 6 weeks, please get your required forms with US $1000.00 to RI on time
