Rotary is a worldwide service and fellowship organisation with over 1.2 million Rotarians in more than 170 countries. The 25,000 Clubs of Rotary International are grouped into Districts. District 9790 covers part of Melbourne northern suburbs, north to Wodonga, east to the Victorian Alps and west to the Murray.
RYLA is one of several Rotary youth programs and was first developed in Australia. In District 9790, each Rotary club is invited to select young leaders to receive the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards each year. Clubs are welcome to support a number of participants. Awards In District 9790, the Rotary Youth Leadership Award comprises a Certificate, awarded upon completion of the seven day RYLA Conference for which all costs can be met by a combination of the sponsoring club, the participant and the employer or by the Rotary alone. The conference investment covers the following: transport to the venue, food, accommodation, presentations, outdoor leadership challenges, entertainment and voluntary professional training staff.
Any active or potential young leader aged between 18 - 30 years is eligible. RYLA assumes that leadership is a diverse and varied concept. RYLA does not accept that any one form or style of leadership is more important compared to another form. RYLA values all young people who see themselves as leaders in any sphere. To Apply for an Award The application form is divided in 3 sections to be:
Complete the application, (see ribbon above), and send or hand it to the RYLA Representative of your local Rotary club to be scheduled for an interview. With any queries, please contact the RYLA Conference Director. Selection of Awardees Each Rotary club will form a selection panel to interview applicants and select its participants. As with other Rotary programs, it is suggested that clubs ensure reserve participants are available. Reserves cover those last minute unpredicted events. An empty space at RYLA is a lost opportunity. It will also cost a non-refundable administrative fee, contact the RYLA Conference Director for information.
