As we prepare for PUBLIC RELATIONS NATIONAL ROTARY WEEK - FEBRUARY 20th to 26th on behalf of the public relations committee I take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to all those clubs that are doing a wonderful job of local promotion of this great humanitarian organisation that we are proud members of ROTARY INTERNATIONAL. I recently attended a combined meeting of the Rotary Clubs of Mansfield, Alexandra and Yea and found that they are all very visible with their activities throughout the entire region. This was also the case with the Rotary Club of Bundoora at a visit late last year. Whilst we tend to take for granted the different activities we all undertake within our communities we are in fact showcasing :-
I know that in my club - Rotary Club of Sunbury - last year we invested in new club polo tops and a weatherproof jacket. This is our uniform for ALL activities as a positive approach for PR and recognition within our community. Another step taken was to implement a program called " Bangers on Brooke " - this is based on Rotarians manning our BBQ trailer on one Saturday night a month between midnight and 2.00AM serving free sausages and bottled water to the young people leaving a popular night club. This has provided fantastic exposure of rotary to a whole new generation who ask that above 3 questions. They make donations ranging from $2 to $20 dollars for the " FREE SAUSAGES " provided along with thanks for taking the time to provide this appreciated service. The police advise that when this event happens violence is down! Rotary Club of Bright have a wonderful tool with their Water Slide; last year PDG Syd Lewis and his team ran the slide for the whole of summer raising in excess of $20,000 - of which a lot was re-invested back into the slide with the installation of a new building for the volunteers who man the slide collecting money and the installation of new shade cloth sails to protect the kids from the heat. Again this summer we have fantastic exposure to the public at large through this event. I know that there are many more examples of these types public relations activities taking place across the district --- PLEASE contact us and share with us the activities you're your club undertakes so that we may inform others looking for a way to improve their presence in the community. ROTARY AWARENESS STARTS IT IS NOT A PROGRAM FOR A MONTH - IT IS A PROGRAM FOR EVERY MONTH OF THE YEAR. - REMEMBER WHEN PEOPLE KNOW OF US THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THEY MAY WANT TO JOIN US ! This was just the case at the Mansfield meeting; I sat alongside another young woman there as a speaker who had lived in the town for 24 years and never knew of Rotary until that evening when all the 3 Presidents gave a report on their individual clubs activities - she said that once she knew:
She wanted to follow up by becoming a member of Mansfield !!! These are just examples of how we can promote ourselves during Rotary Week - help your club come up with a way of promoting yourselves during this week. We look forward to meeting all of you at the Conference to hear some of your stories in the House of Friendship.
