District Governor David Anderson along with District Youth Exchange Short Term Chairman Charles Knight and fellow Tallangatta member Manny Chessari were at Melbourne Airport on Friday 9th March to welcome the New Generations Exchange [NGE] team from District 1950, Germany. This is the first NGE team hosted by District 9790.
The visiting team is led by 26 year old Michael Guttendorfer and the five team members are Uli Goschenhofer (23), a medical student, Christina Braun (21), who works at Siemens in the Strategic procurement Department and is studying international business administration part-time, Claudia Hanse (24), who is studying Business Economics with a special focus on healthcare, Linda Schulze (21), a student in International Management and Economics and Pia Bauernschmitt (22) who is a law student specialising in international law.
They are being hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Tallangatta, Benalla, Alexandra, Kinglake Ranges and Heidelberg and will be at District Conference.
New Generations Exchange can be either a single exchange or a team exchange and is typically 3 - 4 weeks although single exchanges can be up to three months. It is for 18 -25 year olds and enables participants to observe something of their area of study or vocational whilst developing a cultural understanding of their host District and country. Team Leader Michael will be a participant in the New Generations workshop at District Conference to explain New Generations Exchanges and the team will present to the full Conference on Sunday 25th March.
After a 30 hour flight from Germany to Melbourne via Abu Dhabi, the team travelled by road to Tallangatta and their first hosts. Their first cultural experience came the following day, the annual Tallangatta Show.
