| MUNA Summary | ||
MUNA is based on a continuing successful project, originally organised by the Rotary Club of Forbes (NSW) which has now been adopted by Rotary Districts and is enthusiastically supported by the United Nations. CONCEPT: - Rotary Clubs in our District, and Clubs from other Districts, will be urged to sponsor a team of two Year 10, 11 or 12 students, with each team to represent a nation at a simulated "Model United Nations Assembly". They will debate topics of international concern such as world peace, environmental issues, human rights etc. |
Ideally a familiarisation with the nation that the students are representing will not only involve the participating students but will hopefully become a learning exercise for all the students in that year. |
ARRANGEMENTS: - Rotary Clubs are now seeking students as delegates and a Rotarian, parent or responsible person to act as counsellor and chaperone. Sponsorship, by the club or district, includes all meals & accommodation for the team on the weekend. All participating students stay at the Bush Capital Lodge, without exception. For those counsellors staying at the Canberra Motor Village (CMV), the buses transporting the students to and from the events at Old Parliament House and ANU will drive via the CMV so there is no need to find your own way to the events |
A team consists of two or three students. The counsellor MUST be an adult – he/she cannot be the third student. The Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise will provide all catering for the weekend. Schools are encouraged to contact a Rotary Club in their area for nomination, information forms and for sponsorship and to select students who will be from senior grades. As nominations are received, the Host Club will provide details, programs, rules of debate and information about the countries allocated to the students. |
BENEFITS: - The students will develop an awareness of the working of the United Nations and of the country that they are representing.
They will have an opportunity to practice and develop their public speaking and debating skills, and gain a better understanding of the international positions of other countries. They can dress up, debate, argue, laugh, socialise and they will meet students from other schools around Australia. |
