DUTIES OF INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN

Role of District International Committee
How can we better help Clubs ?
How can we better cross-pollinate - Clubs/ Districts / Regions ?
Do we need any other sub-committees ?
Role is to promote and publicise what Rotary is doing - both within Clubs/District and also outside Rotary.
Know your acromyms - (click here)
Know your International Service Programs - (click here)
There are a significant number of Club international projects which do not go through RAWCS - clubs do their own thing.
The main advantage of RAWCS is tax-deductability.
RAWCS is the umbrella organisation under which a number of Rotary programs operate - (click here)
Use the passion of recently returned RAWCS volunteer teams to present to other Clubs.
We need media materials to "sell" international projects/programs.
Clubs have to balance between local and international service activities.
In many instances, funds raised in the local community are dedicated to going back into the community through local service projects.
Succession planning is important within sub-committees.

Membership of Committees and Distribution of these Members
Desirable to have sub-committee members distributed throughout the District.
There are many members in Clubs who would welcome the opportunity to learn of, and participate in District activity.
Suggested that co-ordinators should invite nominations for sub-committees via the Assistant Governors - maybe a representative from each Group?
It is very important that new members be given clear jobs to do and support/advice on how to do it. (Some people have been nominated to sub-committees in the past and have never been asked to do anything.)
A folio is being prepared for each role on the District Management Committee and their chairs. This will be a 'live' document to be updated each year.

What do we mean by "co-ordination" by Chairmen?
Getting out into the District and advertising and promoting to Clubs.
Providing current information and 'how to' materials to Clubs.
Clubs need information.
We cannot rely on there being experienced members (in International projects) in all Clubs.

The Role of Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) Chairman
RFE Co-ordinator sets up the exchanges but team leaders do the co-ordination thereafter.
RFE mostly self-promotes through experienced participants.
RFE strong demand due to strong activity and involvement.
The District Co-ordinator should be a leader not the manager of the program.

Other:
New members expect the use of modern technology, including "Facebook" and "You Tube" etc. Consider potential for the use of Skype to remote Clubs.
Suggestion of production of a DVD of International Programs for use by Clubs - what are the programs achieving, what sub-committees do and what we have to offer.
the presentation of the DVD should be supported by a District International committee member and/or experienced and enthusiastic participants.
There is an existing (A5) booklet of "Programs of Australian Rotary". We could produce a booklet "Programs of District 9790" with an accompanying DVD.
International programs of Rotary are "looking beyond the parish pump".
Rotary is the only NGO worldwide with 'offices' in 32,000 locations!
The "Mansfield Courier" has one page devoted to Rotary each week! This is true local community involvement of Rotary.
We need to know what Clubs are doing in our District in the International service programs. This will enable the District committee to understand the types and level of activity in International programs, to target support to Clubs, and to be able to refer Clubs who are interested in starting a particular activity to Clubs who have experience in that area. Also make use of these contacts. (click here)
There are difficulties in promoting fundraising locally for polio/malaria eradication as people do not identify with these diseases although "polio is only a plane ride away".
Districts are only nominal administrative groupings and joint activities with other Districts are to be encouraged. DG has contact details for all Districts or visit Rotary DownUnder. Go to: All Disticts of Australia and New Zealand.
There is potential to promote a District RAWCS project, encouraging participation by several Clubs.
Make use of Matching Grants, there are also opportunities for utilization of District Designated Funds.
DG Newsletter, Rotary DownUnder and the D9790 website are always looking for good articles and pictures. Use them. The District website is one of the most comprehensive Rotary sites in Australia. It is run entirely by volunteers. Contact the District Webmaster.
Clubs need to be encouraged to feed good newsworthy articles to external newspapers and TV as well as the internal Rotary media.
