| Equipment Trailer for East Timor |
![]() |
The Rotary Club of Bright has had a very long history of working in East Timor, over the last 10 years we have been involved in RAWCS projects run by other clubs and projects of our own that have been funded exclusively by the Bright Club. In that time I have been approached by many clubs expressing their interest in becoming involved at various levels in helping what is the poorest nation in Asia and one of the poorest in the world. |
| They have had a tumultuous past in their efforts to gain independence from Indonesia, this had a violent and lasting effect on the population. There is still a huge amount of work to be done and fortunately strong support from Rotary clubs has gone a long way to helping the country set a path towards a better future. |
One of the big issues in getting projects underway is the lack of available tools and equipment that is transportable to the remote locations often encountered in Timor. To solve this problem the Bright Club along with the Rotary Club of Appin Park has purchased a 5.8 metre (19 ft) tool trailer, especially designed and built for the conditions in East Timor, the cost of the trailer was $11,000. The next step is to fit it out with tools and equipment; we estimate the cost of doing this in the vicinity of $12,000 (some of the money will be used to repay a small loan and insure the trailer). Sounds a lot which it is, however if we could get a small donation (or large) from each club in our district then we will do it comfortably. To this end I am asking if your club would be kind enough to donate $500 (or more) to the fit out of the trailer. If it would suit better we can suggest a piece of equipment that you may like to purchase instead. We already have at least one club waiting to go once it is ready. This will certainly open the door for any club(s) to get involved as it will remove the major impediment in starting a project. Your help would be greatly appreciated by us and the Timorese.
