Preparing Your GSE Applicant, Team Leader & Team Member By PP Don Hamilton Why did I prepare these web pages? Well, by way of explanation, I was motivated after spending some time on the District's selection panel for GSE team leaders and team members. It was disappointing and sad for us as a panel to see so many enthusiastic and worthy candidates - both leaders and members - fail because they were poorly prepared, or in some cases not prepared at all, by their sponsoring Clubs. They knew little or nothing about Rotary and The Rotary Foundation (yes, even aspiring team leaders!), they could not describe their District, and their knowledge of their country, the country they would be representing, was poor. I have put this series of web pages together in the hope that all candidates would receive a better hearing at the interview process because someone had taken the time and trouble to help them in their preparation. I do not pretend for one minute that this document covers all the points. In fact I hope that those Rotarians who are more experienced and knowledgeable than I will read it and take the time to share their knowledge with their colleagues. And this will be easy to do. All that is needed is a letter or an email to me and I will be only too pleased to add their experience and suggestions to the next version. I want this to be a "live" document and not sit on a shelf or in a drawer, because if that happens our GSE applicants will continue to fill two main categories - well prepared and mediocre. Please feel free to download and distribute as many copies as you feel appropriate for your needs. I can be reached at don.hamilton@mymail.net.au
