An Overview

Often asked questions are:

  • • Who belongs to our Rotary Family?
  • • Why is the Family of Rotary important?
  • • How do we care for fellow Rotarians like family?
  • • How do we involve our own families in Rotary?
  • • How can we care for spouses of deceased Rotarians?
  • • How can Youth Exchange students become family members?
  • • How can we involve Interactors, Rotaractors and RYLArians in the family? and
  • • How do we keep Foundation Alumni involved in the family?

Please ask your club Family of Rotary coordinator to update you on the ways and what your club can do for your community.

Rae and I attended the District Change-over to see PDG Peter pass the baton to DG David and Judy.  The family of Rotary for us included our fellow Rotarians from around the District who were also attending.   It was fantastic to catch up with them  and hear what has happened since we last met.

I encourage interclub visiting as a means to catch up with Rotarian friends that you have made in your time in Rotary.

We need to remember that in February 2009 the Bushfires created havoc in our District and more importantly there are people in our District who continue to need help in re-establishing their lives.

I ask you to continue with not only fundraising to assist these people, but more importantly put on the steel capped boots and a pair of gloves and go out and help with re-fencing (still a huge lot to do) help replant home gardens and re-establish wetland areas and natural vegetation zones that are used by our native animals and shelter belts for live stock.

Contact DGE Alan Anderson’s Drought Relief and Bushfire Recovery Committee and they will assist in directing you to areas that need hands on assistance.

Just as importantly I ask you to ring or visit your own club “Family of Rotary” and make sure they are ok – most times they just need a hug and an ear to listen, or our more senior members of the community may just need reassurance or a simple task completed for them.

Remember, at these times the FAMILY OF ROTARY is JUST as important as our community service ideals.
