Cardiac Catheterisation Lab for Kathmandu

Catheter

It was a great thrill for the DIK Committee to see the catheter lab from the Footscray Hospital get relocated to Kathmandu, Nepal in a successful operation.

Eastern Region through Ron Marcus (Rotary Club of Castle Hill) discovered the availability of the unit, contacted Southern Region for logistics and volunteers to help dismantle it and funded the freight costs for us.

Lab Packed

The CATHETER LAB (Philips Integris H3000) was loaded into a container on a number of pallets at the Essendon Store on Sunday 14th August. This is destined for Kathmandu, Nepal.

The goodwill created by this project is fantastic. The Rotarian volunteers, in Melbourne, who helped dismantle it at the Western Health Footscray Hospital, Peter Koens from Philips, hospital administrators and staff, the hospital security people, the specialist transport people – all have been very enthusiastic.

The costs of freight was funded by Eastern Region thanks to PP Ron Marcus and Ken Nicholls.

We filled the empty space still available in the container with 6 hospital beds, sundry medical supplies, 30 computers for the newly established nursing school and a local secondary school.

Isabel Armer, (Rotary Club of Kew on Yarra) became involved and supplied a number of boxes of educational books, school uniforms and other items for a local school in Kathmandu. All the final packing took place at the Essendon store.

This was a great co-operative effort between Eastern and Southern Regions.
(I am forever amazed at the Rotary network)
