RAWCS - Donations in Kind Donations In Kind is the program whereby Rotarians and Rotary Clubs source surplus goods and products within Australia that have no further use here. These goods however, are valuable to those in needy countries. A central co-ordination committee stores, packs and dispatches the goods to those needy countries.
Clubs wishing to participate in Donations In Kind should contact the Coordinator Alex Shaw for further information. For clubs wishing to participate, it is important to note that funding is not readily available for the transport of goods, and clubs should include the cost of transport in their budgets. These pages will provide updates about items in need during this Rotary year. Please return to this page regularly to keep in touch. PP David Meller, (Rotary Club of Strathmore) is e-mail: dmeller@optusnet.com.au He is prepared to go to any Club in the District and talk about DIK. He has a Powerpoint presentation available to help illustrate this valuable program of Rotary. |
Message from Chairman Alex Shaw Our District Donations In Kind committee has the use of the Old Fire Station at Essendon Airport to sort, classify and store all the things that come our way for this exciting and effective international program of RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service). Containers of all kinds of goods continue to be packed and shipped in support of communities to our near north and sometimes even further afield, but all this requires the combined efforts of Rotarians in our entire District. DIK seeks to involve the Rotary Clubs in District 9790 in the collection of appropriate goods, assistance with sorting and packing for shipment, and the ‘all important’ financial support. May we ask that you read these pages, ask your Bulletin editor to feature news in your bulletin, fill in the questionnaire and return it to the committee so we might more effectively co-ordinate the efforts of our District 9790 and together, “really make a difference”. |
A simple starting project would be to approach all the schools in your Club area and seek their culled books from their libraries each year. These educational books are invaluable in third world countries where English is the second language. Click here for a Book Classification List to help you sort the books. |
