| The Donations In Kind Store, Footscray, is a shared facility available for use for Rotary Club Container Projects and this is one of the main reasons the Store exists. It is the biggest Donations in Kind Store in Victoria. The limited number of volunteers involved gather, sort and pack goods and ship the equivalent of one 20' container each week from a limited space. It costs $50,000 a year to run the Store and Van. For this to work smoothly Rotary Clubs need to be aware of the process and their role as partners in this project. This is your Store, DIK the most successful ongoing Rotary Project in Australia and for this to continue Rotary Clubs have to share the responsibility. Project Registration Projects have to be registered by the Store prior to accepting delivery of goods to be shipped or existing stock allocated. Clubs are required to discuss their project with the Store and we recommend that this should be done as early as possible. A project must be approved by the Club Board, who need to be aware of the conditions and costs involved. Project Material It is a Club's responsibility to provide the material for their project, however there is a large amount to stock material available for Clubs to share for their project. If Clubs require any of the stock material they have an obligation to gather other material to allow future Clubs to have the same opportunity. ![]() Processing Clubs need to understand that the Store is a transit facility and has no space to store goods for potential projects. During registration, a packing commencement time and a fixed shipping date will be agreed and packing area allocated. Packing can only begin when a preceding Club ships their project, so maintaining the schedule is critical. A shipping label will be produced and because of the volume of goods processed by the Store, it is essential that it should be on all goods delivered or allocated for the Project. While the Store volunteers will assist when they are available, it is a Club's responsibility to pack their container. Funding The long term aim is to find a Sponsor for the Store, but until this happens, Clubs have to contribute to the Store running costs. Some Clubs are members of DIK Incorporated and commit to donating a minimum of $3000 pa two years in advance. These Clubs are silent partners in your project and should be thanked for their support. Other Clubs are Friends of DIK and contribute what they can. DIK Inc Clubs and Friends of DIK, who commit to donating a minimum of $1000 at the start of the year are not charged for Club Containers. Other Clubs are expected to donate $1000 per container. $500 is due when the project is registered and goods are delivered or allocated from stock. The balance when the container is delivered to the Store. We look forward to working with you on your Project. |
