UPDATE for Debating Organiser

We are pleased to confirm the full complement of 32 teams for this year's competition and we look forward to some great debating.

In organizing the enclosed draw, the committee has done its best to consider issues such as distance to travel, Victorian and NSW school holidays etc. The draw for the Semi-final, together with the draw for Affirmative and Negative, will be provided later in the year.

Attached are: Notes for New Club Debating Coordinators, the Manual of Procedures, Notes on Debating and Adjudication of Debates, a set of marking sheets and the draw. Two copies have been provided as packages. One copy is to for your use and the second is intended for you to pass on to the school debating coach.

Note that each of the six adjudication sheets is different, so they must be copied as a set
.
The Manual of Procedures clearly shows which team should assume the Affirmative and which the Negative.

It is important that you are aware that all debaters must be enrolled school students when they compete.

Please note that the first named team is responsible for making the initial contact.

Also note that when selecting adjudicators, they are to be as independent as possible with no connection to your club, the team or their families. We realize it can be difficult to find people to fulfill this role, but we do ask that you please be very aware of this independence aspect.

The topics for this competition are:

Round One - to be completed by 1 July 11 (end of Vic. Term 2)

"That Australia must store more water."

Round Two - to be completed by 23 September 11 (end of Vic. Term 3)

"That gaoling offenders is an outmoded concept."

Round Three - to be completed by 23 November11
"That we are a product of marketing."

The debating committee is happy to receive feedback about the debating competition. Please be assured that we will deal with any issues that arise as quickly as possible.
