GREETINGS TO ALL IN DISTRICT 9790

We are at a crucial stage in planning District Conference (maybe they're all crucial). As registration is so important to the successful planning process, I am appealing to all clubs and individual members to get those registrations in.

So much depends on an early knowledge of numbers for the use of facilities and catering. Early bird registrants are reminded to now book for the optional events. Most are open to any number, but there is a limit to the seating for the Sportsman's Dinner.

Early registration will avoid disappointment.

Some new features of the programme address the comments in RDU that 'its all lecture and listen'. For those unfamiliar with Breakout sessions, these offer a choice of workshop style presentations in smaller venues and enable comment and discussion. There will be two sets of four workshops giving an opportunity to choose two that are of special interest. During this time on Saturday afternoon, the auditorium will be set up for dinner, but Rotary Expo, relaxation areas and tea and coffee will be available for those who wish to network and meet up with friends. The Puckle Street shops are a pleasant five minute stroll away offering a great range of 'retail therapy and cafes'.

Another feature is the Forum with Bob Birrell, Rob Gell and two other eminent speakers TBA. This too will enable some question and comment time.

The whole programme will be broadcast to the main rooms, enabling registrants to see the main stage while enjoying coffee and conversation. Breaks will be long enough to enable a relaxed 'cuppa', toilet stop and fellowship.

The Rotary Expo - AKA House of Friendship - will be open to the public on Friday night when the races are on. And as sponsors of the first race we hope to encourage a great deal of interest in Rotary and the work we do. It is a great PR exercise - and a great marketing opportunity.

Clubs and groups are encouraged click here for an expression of interest. Clubs may also be aware of local businesses that would seize this opportunity to set up a booth. This would take the form of a $500.00 sponsorship and entitle the business to ongoing advertisement in the District Newsletter as well as great exposure in the Expo. Given a potential audience of thousands, this would be a very good opportunity. If you know any candidates, contact them and advise how to register their interest.

Thank you to all who are helping and supporting this District event, to the Presidents and Onto Conference reps and to the many members who have offered a day or half a day of ushering or marshalling. Federal Government generosity enables the provision of some petrol vouchers to help defray the costs of travel and these will be distributed as equitably as possible.

Time is getting short but we feel well on track to a truly great conference with a difference 'When The Countryside Comes To The City'
