Mansfield Rotary Club's Pat O'Brien has achieved a milestone which is the envy of his fellow Rotarians - he has had 100% attendance at Rotary for the past 38 years. Pat first joined Mansfield Rotary in June 1970, when he was head of a thriving local business. Over the following 38 years, Pat has held every position in the club, with the exception of Treasurer and Secretary. As a businessman, Pat travelled extensively during his working life, but always sought out the local Rotary clubs to attend weekly meetings. He has attended meetings in America (even finding a breakfast meeting in Salt Lake City!), Canada, Hawaii, Darwin and Adelaide to name a few. As Pat says, "In the early years, I never consciously sought to have 100% attendance - I attended because I enjoy Rotary, and what it stands for and I have particularly enjoyed meeting fellow Rotarians at different clubs in Australia and around the world. In the last few years, though, maintaining my attendance record has become something of a challenge." Pat's record of service to the Rotary organisation is "something of a challenge" to all fellow Rotarians, though it is doubtful that many of us could match his dedication. |
