A message from District Governor Peter Gilbert

My friends in Rotary,

Barbara and I invite you to join us at beautiful Geelong in March 2009 to celebrate another wonderful year of Rotary service.

As Victoria's second largest city, Geelong has the ability to offer us a complete change in lifestyle, a Getaway, for both country and metropolitan people. We will share facilities second to none for all our business and social functions.

Geelong is considered the gateway to the Great Ocean Road and Waterfront Geelong is an awardwinning and exciting precinct that features many cafes and restaurants, fully restored art deco sea-water baths, a yacht club marina and a scenic bayside promenade dotted with brightly painted bollards. The Westfield Bay City shopping complex is located nearby.

Our conference venue is located at the Deakin University Waterfront Campus. Geelong's old wool stores have been converted into a modern inner city campus site which also contains the state of the art, fully air-conditioned Costa Hall auditorium seating 1,500 delegates in comfortable theatre style seating.

Our Thursday Sports Day will cater for the non-sporting partner by providing recreational activities, such as a guided walk around historical Geelong with a coffee stop included.

Because we want our conference to be family friendly we are making special arrangements for a children's program on the Saturday to be followed by a Gala Variety Concert on Saturday evening that will cater for all the family.

We will provide a program featuring dynamic keynote speakers to inspire you and Rotary speakers to challenge you. You will be brought up to date on your magnificent organization and how we are succeeding within our District and beyond in the areas of Community, Vocational and International Service.

Plan to get away to a place where you can enjoy yourself - a place where you can delight yourself in a weekend of fun and fellowship. Plan now to “Getaway to Geelong” in March 2009 and attend the Rotary District 9790 Conference.

Peter & Barbara Gilbert,
District Governor 2008/09
