The role of this committee is to assist the District Governor and to plan organize, co-ordinate and oversee the provision of District Community Programs Chairman PP Patrick O'Shea (Elaine) Assistant Chairman PP Vincent Leonard (Bernadette) Australian Rotary Health Research Fund The Australian Rotary Health Research fund has allocated in excess of $8 million to health research grants since its inception in 1981. The fund was the dream of the late Ian Scott, Past President of the Rotary Club of Mornington and the fund now has a scholarship named in his honour
M.S. Awareness Co-ordinator PP Maureen Kear (Russell) Bowel Scan Bowelscan is essentially a public awareness program seeking to increase public knowledge of bowel cancer and its symptoms Co-ordinator PP Graeme Cocks Road Trauma This committee encourages clubs to become more aware and educated about the effects of fatigue, speed, drugs/alcohol, and road rage on victims and their families. Co-ordinator Doug Evans (Di) Medic Alert Medic Alert is a bracelet/necklace that contains the medical information of the person in the event of a medical emergency. Josie Grey 1800 882 222 Probus The aim of this committee is to establish the need for Probus Clubs in areas where these do not currently exist and to foster their development Co-ordinator PDG Ron Pearce (Marilyn) Committee PDG Neville Cann (Dulcie) PDG Eric Van Leeuwen (Joan) PDG Graeme Beck (Noela) Emergency Medical Information Aid To encourage co-operation and foster good relationships between Ambulance Services and Rotary by encouraging members of the community to take responsibility for their own medical history. Co-ordinator PP Vincent Leonard (Bernadette) Environmental Management This committee will assist in encouraging clubs and Rotarians to work together with Environmental Groups to help improve the health of water systems in our District Co-ordinator PP Kevin Ritchie (Ann) Committee PP Jim Martin (Kate) PP Cliff Swatton (June) Allan Gale (Mary) Walking Tall Walking Tall supports the Centre of Molecular Genetics at the Royal Melbourne Hospital which has developed a range of DNA tests that allow the early diagnosis of relapse in leukemia patients. It's the first Centre of its kind in Asia Pacific Region. The program also supports funding of an oncology trained psychologist in the Albury-Wodonga community. The program gives Rotarians and the community the opportunity to participate in a fund raising walk from Melbourne to Albury. The Future: Looking ahead, the DNA testing will be expanded to include many types of cancer, and beyond cancer, to support diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and other major health challenges in our community.
